Motion Performance Raceway is bringing a new era of NHRA drag racing to Gimli, Manitoba. Located approximately one hour north of Winnipeg, the quarter-mile dragstrip is part of the historic 235-acre Gimli Motorsports Park, a multi-use facility that also includes a road course, karting track, motocross track and special-events areas.

The dragstrip, originally opened in 1978, has long served as an important home for racers throughout Manitoba and Central Canada. In early 2026, a new operating team stepped forward with a commitment to revitalize the track and preserve its place within the region’s motorsports community.

Under the leadership of owner Sheldon Root and track manager Cheryl Sinclair, the facility reopened as Motion Performance Raceway. The team undertook an ambitious renovation program to prepare the track for its return, completing numerous repairs and improvements throughout the property. The most significant project included the installation of a new concrete starting-line surface in both lanes, providing racers with an improved and more consistent racing surface. Much of the work was supported by local racers, businesses, sponsors and volunteers who rallied behind the effort to bring drag racing back to Gimli.

That support was evident during Motion Performance Raceway’s grand-opening weekend in August 2026, when more than 100 race cars and a strong crowd of spectators filled the facility. The successful opening marked an exciting return for the track and demonstrated the enthusiasm that continues to surround drag racing in Manitoba.

With a dedicated operating team, an energized racing community and a growing schedule of programs and events, Motion Performance Raceway is building upon the legacy of drag racing while creating a promising future for NHRA drag racing in Manitoba.
