NHRA Lucas Oil winners crowned at S.R.C.A. Dragstrip

GREAT BEND, Kan. – Champions were recognized yesterday for the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series at S.R.C.A. Dragstrip and the NHRA West Central Division that included Comp Eliminator, Super Stock and the rest of the classes that encompass the nationwide series. 

Attendees at the S.R.C.A. Dragstrip witnessed Kansas native Gary Stinnett of Emporia, Kan., capture wins in the Super Street and Super Street Shootout races. In Super Street, Stinnett ran 11.038 seconds 141.50 mph defeating local favorite Rachel Smith, Great Bend, Kan., 11.027 seconds, 134.08 mph. In the Super Street Shootout, Stinnett, ran 11.033, 146.97 defeating Sandy Cawsey, Regina, Sask.

In Comp Eliminator Don Thomas, Amarillo, Texas, ran 6.854, 182.35 defeating Matt Harris, Nebraska City, Neb., 7.936, 164.13. In another all Kansas affair, the Fineline Madcap Top Dragster, Matt Driskell, Wellsville, Kan., ran 6.447, 210.08 beating Mark Grame, Overland, Kan., 6.831, 189.76.

The other drivers visiting the winner’s circle were David Rampy, Piedmont, Ala., in Super Stock; Scott Burton, Golden, Colo., in Stock Eliminator; Jeremy Hook, Wichita, Kan., in Super Comp; Kevin Dyck, E. St. Paul, Man., in Super Gas; and Curtis Spracklin, Omaha, Neb., in Sportsman Motorcycle presented by Harley-Davidson

In the other specialty events, Kevin Dyck, Winnipeg, Man., won in Super Comp Shootout; and Casey Wagner, Hooper, Neb., took the trophy in Super Gas Shootout.

GREAT BEND, Kan. – Day two is in the books and the fields are set for the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Thunder on the Plains event at S.R.C.A. Drag Strip. Qualifying was finalized in the division’s Jerry Haas Top Sportsman and the Fineline/Madcap Top Dragsters, Comp Eliminator, Super Stock and the remaining classes in competition. 

Gates open on Sunday at 7 a.m. with racers battling it out in head to head competition for a chance at taking home the trophy and their share of cash and contingency awards.  Tickets are $20 for adults and children 12 & under are free with a paid adult.  For more information call S.R.C.A. GREAT BEND, Kan. - The NHRA West Central Division is at S.R.C.A Drag Strip for the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Thunder on the Plains event this weekend featuring 200 mph Top Dragster and Top Sportsman cars, Stock, Super Stock and the rest of the classes that encompass the nationwide series.

This weekend’s event is one of six in the division and one of 44 that take place throughout the year from coast to coast with nearly 400 of the best racers from the region looking for valuable points leading toward national and divisional championships. 

Racers made qualifying and time trial runs today that also included the division’s Jerry Haas Top Sportsman and the Fineline/Madcap Top Dragsters which made two qualifying runs and will continue with two more qualifying runs on Saturday.

The event is one of 45 scheduled across the country where drivers in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series earn points leading to divisional and national championships as well as a chance at a share of the year-end purse of more than $519,000. Categories include Comp Eliminator, Super Stock, Stock Eliminator, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The division’s Jerry Haas Race Cars Top Sportsman Series, Fineline Madcap Top Dragster Series and the Sportsman Motorcycle Series presented by Harley-Davidson will also run in conjunction with the event.

Gates at S.R.C.A. Dragstrip open at 7 a.m. each day. Qualifying and time trials are Friday and Saturday at 9 a.m. Top Sportsman, Top Dragster and Comp Eliminator qualify Friday at 1 and 5 p.m. and Saturday at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Eliminations begin Sunday morning at 9 a.m.

Tickets for S.R.C.A. Dragstrip are $10 Friday, $20 Saturday and $20 Sunday. Children 12 and under are admitted free with a paid adult.

BONUS PROGRAMS:
NHRA LUCAS OIL DRAG RACING SERIES POINTS FUND: a $519,000 point fund from Lucas Oil, which will be shared by 2015 NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series divisional, regional and national champions. Regional awards include $10,000 each to the Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car champions with Divisional awards of $3,000 to the champions in both Competition and Super Stock; $2,000 each to the champions in Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The seven national champions will share a bonus of $135,000.

JEGS ALLSTARS: The best of the best from each of NHRA’s seven divisions will compete for a share of the $124,000 point fund from Jegs High Performance. The 2015 Jegs Allstars event will culminate a year-long points battle between drivers in each of NHRA’s Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series’ eight classes as well as Top Sportsman and Top Dragster. The top points earner in each category will qualify to represent his/her division at the 2015 Jegs Allstars. Points are based on in-division races only.

The winning regional and division team will share $25,000 and individual awards include $7,000 each to the Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car champions, $6,000 to champions in Comp Eliminator and Super Stock, $5,000 to Top Sportsman and Top Dragster champions, and $4,500 to the Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas, and Super Street champions. Runners-up in all categories will earn $2,000 apiece. Each Allstars competitor will also receive a share of a $25,000 towing fund to get to the event.

Event sponsor, Jegs High Performance, is offering a “double up” bonus to Jegs Allstars participants. Any 2015 Jegs Allstars champion who also wins the national event will have his/her Allstars prize doubled.

AEROMOTIVE LOW QUALIFIER BONUS: A $3,000 bonus fund paid to the low qualifiers in Comp Eliminator, Super Stock and Stock Eliminator at each of the division’s six races. NHRA SPORTSMAN MOTORCYCLE SERIES presented by HARLEY-DAVIDSON: The NHRA Sportsman Motorcycle Series presented by Harley-Davidson, run in conjunction with the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, is an opportunity for competitors in NHRA’s Sportsman Motorcycle class to earn points toward divisional championships. The $14,000 champions’ purse posted by Harley-Davidson will be paid to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place points finishers in NHRA divisions that host Sportsman Motorcycles.
